LIVE RECAP:
Chalky walks into the brothel and sees his wife. He asks what she’s doing in the cathouse and she says, “Just business.” Chalky sees a little girl on the couch asleep. She says, “It’s not his.” Chalky asks, “Then whose?” She responds, “Just mine.”
She says he needs to leave immediately. She asks him to walk out, while he still can. He unlocks the door and leaves.
In the club, a girl dances, and everyone’s having a slow night.
FLASHBACK:
Younger Nucky wakes up in bed. He gets up to investigate some sound in the kitchen, only to find his girlfriend making a pastry crust for a strawberry pie. He asks why she has to do this now, and can it wait until the morning. She says no, that the strawberries are starting to turn. He talks about his day and how The Commodore refuses to recognize the work he’s done over the years. He says none of it matters, however, because all he’s doing and will continue to do is for his future child.
CURRENT STORYLINE:
Nucky is talking with a woman in a bar. She asks his name, and he tells her it’ Francis X Bushman. She asks him why he’s visiting. She guesses, and after she’s done describing her elaborate scenario, Nucky corrects her with, “Looking for a good time.”
George and Eli arrive at Capone’s place with the agenda of taking a peek at his records — so that they can give the detectives some hard evidence. They’re in a bit of a pickle at the moment and are sort of being forced to do this. They discuss running.
They are taken into the apartment. They open the door to the office that nobody is supposed to go in without permission. They see Ralph having sex with someone. He gets mad, storms out, and asks to look in the bag they’re carrying. He dumps out a bunch of loose papers, which look kind of like receipts. Ralph asks what kind of stuff they’re trying to pull. Ralph tells the cronies to go find Mikey Angelo.
Chalky talks with Lenore. Dr. Narcisse knocks on the door and asks to be let in. He says that they’ve traveled an awful long way to play foolish games. Narcisse chats with the small girl and asks if she knows the man (pointing to Chalky). Chalky chimes in, “They’re not part of this.” Narcises says, “I guess we all have our affairs to discuss.”
FLASHBACK:
Nucky is patrolling the boardwalk during the summertime in Atlantic City. He observes the happenings, and he notices a woman looking a bit baffled.
CURRENT:
Nucky is getting drunk with the lady, and a new friend, he met in the bar. We’re not really sure why he’s drinking himself into a stupor, but it probably has something to do with Sally’s recent death and his recent business deals, many of which have either fallen through or taken a turn for the worse.
George and Eli are being questioned. Their cover story is that they came “to rob Al Capone.”
Things aren’t looking good for them. They’re about to be taken outside when Al Capone returns. Al is told about the problem. He’s brought home two movie executives with him, so he tells them to get comfortable and then chats with George and Eli.
George jumps Al Capone and reveals his true identity–but he’s not alive long. He’s shot by Mikey. Mikey takes Eli out of Capone’s residence to kill him. Meanwhile, Ralph hands over the ledgers to Mikey–which is exactly what he wanted all along.
Nucky begins to have sex with the two ladies from the bar when one of them clubs him over the head. She says, “Just so you know, nothing personal.”
Chalky and Narcisse proceed to talk. Narcisse says that he’s being dictated terms by Luciano and his men. Narcisse says that he can make a place for Chalky in his home and, in exchange, he’ll have some form of protection–and he’ll also have the chance to spill the blood he wants to spill should he want that.
He takes Narcisse’s deal.
Nucky wakes up after being attacked. Joe Harper finds him.
Later, Nucky speaks with Joe, and he offers him money for the help he gave him. He finally confesses that he’s trying to mourn the loss of Sally. He doesn’t understand why he’s still alive and she’s not.
All of Nucky’s men gather in the first floor of the club. They all have shotguns, and Nucky says to saddle up for a showdown.
Chalky tells Narcisse that he’s “never going to beat those white boys.” Because they’re everywhere.
Narcisse says that he considers it a basic victory that he’s survived.
Narcisse leaves and, as he does, his men form a line in front of Chalky. Chalky closes his eyes.
We hear a gunshot. The screen goes black.
It’s safe to say that Chalky White has been killed.
