  • He had started playing tennis from the age of 11 and was trained by Gipo Arbino who had remained his coach, as of July 2021. Before he had taken to tennis, he was a keen soccer player and had even represented, between the age of 6 and 13, the youth academy of Torino F.C., an Italian professional soccer club based in his hometown of Turin.
  • When had won his first ATP singles title, at the 2019 Antalya Open, he had saved a championship point.
  • During the last set of his 3rd round match at the 2020 French Open, against 27th seed Taylor Fritz, he was involved in the longest tiebreak in the history of the tournament. He won that tiebreak by a margin of 19-17 which meant that he had achieved a career-best 4th round appearance at a Grand Slam tournament.
  • In the quarter-final stage of the 2020 Erste Bank Open, he had defeated world number 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets (6-2, 6-1). The tournament was held in the last week of October and despite that, this was just the 3rd loss that Novak had suffered in the calendar year. Lorenzo had become the 1st lucky loser to ever defeat Novak and this was also the fewest number of games (3) that Novak had ever won in a match. Lorenzo went on to reach the final of the tournament.
  • At the 2021 Sardegna Open, he had clinched both the singles and doubles titles. As a consequence, he had achieved career-high ATP rankings in both the singles (28) and the doubles (132) formats. The tournament was held in Sardinia, Italy, and by virtue of his title wins, he had become the first Italian singles champion on home soil since 2006 and the first Italian doubles champion on home soil since 2005.
