Manly, Sydney: Manly Lodge slammed as disgusting
A boutique Sydney hotel described as “the worst place I‘ve ever stayed” has been blasted by angry customers who say ”it should be demolished”.
Rooms at Manly Lodge, a “boutique” hotel just minutes away from one of Sydney‘’ most famous beaches, are covered in mould, with customers worried for their health after staying there.
The hotel describes itself as a “boutique guesthouse that brings the best of Manly to your doorstep”; however, customers have described it as “the hotel lodge from hell”.
“Everywhere and everything was old, dirty or covered in mould … I suppose you get what you pay for, I just hope I didn’t pay for legionnaires’ disease,” one customer said via a review.
“ … if you value your health don’t stay in this place, this place needs a match to it,” another said.
The Manly Lodge’s former manager has defended the state of the rooms, saying that they don’t rent out the rooms with large amounts of mould.
“We try our best to improve, some of the conditions in the rooms is not good and we apologise for those guests, but we already stopped sharing those rooms,” manager Tiger Liu told A Current Affair.
“Some good rooms we sell with no mould.
“We tried our best to clean of course.”
Budget rooms at the hotel can go for as little as $100 a night; however, some customers reported paying up to $300 per night for a place that had “mould all over the roof and roof collapsed”.
Images of black mould covering the walls and roof of some rooms have been uncovered by A Current Affair.
“ … mould in rooms, mould in the hallway, the place stunk, no light bulbs, stained couches, it looks abandoned!” another customer said.
Bookings are currently unavailable via the Manly Lodge‘s website or by third-party sites such as Expedia or Wotif despite reviews being posted for the hotel up until early October.
Other than “unhygienic” rooms, customers have also complained that managers and workers were unavailable onsite and spoke of doors being a “fire hazard” because they were difficult to open.
With a 2.5 star rating on TripAdvisor and 3.0 star rating on Google Reviews, some who stayed there said they enjoyed their experience.
“I gave this place a five star rating for their effort to make this older style hotel a boutique and comfortable experience for its guests,” one review from 2019 said.
“The staff, customer service and pricing is perfect for those that are looking for a comfortable stay on a budget.”
NCA NewsWire has contacted the hotel for comment.
