Marvel Teases J.J. Abrams New Spider-Man Villain

Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is co-writing an upcoming Spider-Man comic miniseries, and the first issue will debut in late September. To give fans a sneak peek before the issue hits stores, Marvel has released a new trailer that features a new Spider-Man villain.

According to ComicBook.com, the trailer reveals some of the series’ art drawn by Sara Pitchelli, explains Abrams and his son Henry’s approach to the series, and introduces Cadaverous – the new villain.

When Marvel first announced the project, Henry said that Nick Lowe – the editor of the comic – first contacted him about a decade ago, but it wasn’t until recently that they started developing the idea of a different and exciting take on Spider-Man.

Abrams added that Lowe had also been pressing him to do a book, and he started talking with Henry about it last year. Abrams says that everything happened “organically,” and “that has been the joy of this.”

“Even though I’ve been talking to Nick for a long time, weirdly, this feels like it just sort of evolved from the conversations of Henry and I, having ideas that got us excited and Nick being open to the collaboration,” said Abrams.

This will be Abrams’ first project in the Marvel world, and thanks to the images in the countdown teaser, some believe that it could be his adaptation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4, which never came to fruition.

Between the comics, the MCU, and Disney+, Marvel is pretty much taking over the world of entertainment. When the Disney+ streaming service debuts earlier this year, it will feature the entire MCU back catalog and five new series: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye, and Marvel’s What If…?

 And, when Disney’s D23 Expo starts next week, everyone will be waiting to hear if Kevin Feige reveals any new info about the next few phases of the MCU. Some believe he will share some news about the X-Men or Fantastic Four, but an insider says that he might announce that a Ms. Marvel adaptation is happening.

 The Office alum Mindy Kaling is reportedly involved with the project, and she says that Marvel is “trying to figure out what to do” with the character. Kaling added that the people she has talked to at Marvel are excited about Ms. Marvel, they “really seem interested,” and it might be a good fit for Disney+.
